How To Share A File

Tutorial Number: 172
Made with: Anime Studio Pro 9.2
Level: Basic

This quick tutorial will show you how easy it is to share your Anime Studio files. AnimeStudioTutor.com/shared_files

1. Gather Media

*You can skip to step 3 if you only want to share a .anme file which contains no additional media such as music, image or video

Open the file you want to share in Anime Studio, then go to 'File' > 'Gather Media...'

Select Gather Media
FIGURE 1-1 Select Gather Media

Anime Studio will save a new version of your file and create a folder for the images, sounds and scripts used.

Please note that the upload limit is 2MB on this website. So please keep sound, movie and image files small.

.anme files can be large, but as they are only text files, they do compress very well. (I often see 2MB .anme files zip down to 139KB!)

It's worth pointing out at this stage that when you use the 'Gather Media' option, the new saved version of your Anime Studio file will use 'relative paths' to the linked media files. What this means is that when someone else opens your file on their computer, the program will look for the media items in the same place that they opened the file from. See FIGURE 1-2 below for example.

The new version created should not be edited. If you open this new saved version of your .anme file, and re-save it, Anime Studio will revert back to static paths and the media will be linked to paths that will only work on your machine. You would need to use the 'Gather Media' option again to correct this.

Do not re-gather to the same place. Anime Studio will also re-save all the media used, but it won't delete the media from the first time you saved there, so you'll find duplicate files that aren't needed.

So you must remember to only make changes to your original file, and then use the 'Gather Media' option to create a new version somewhere else (a different new folder is best) on your computer that you can then zip and send. This is where being organised comes in handy!

Brushes and Swatches do not get saved/bundled in this process so you need to include these yourself if you want to also share these.

2. Zip the files

Zip the .anme file and the folders created in step 1

(7-Zip is a good Windows program if needed)

A quick way to zip files in Windows 7. Select the files, right-click > 'Send to' > 'Compressed (zipped) folder'

3. Create the screen image

In Anime Studio go to 'File' > 'Project Settings' > Select 'YouTube' as the dimension then click 'OK'

Set the size to YouTube
FIGURE 3-1 Set the size to YouTube

Move to a frame that you like in your animation, then go to 'File' > 'Preview' > Then at the bottom of the preview window use the 'Save As...' option to create a JPEG file and save it to same place as your zip created in step 2

Save the render as a JPEG

Once you have gathered your files, zipped them and created your screen image, your folder should look something like FIGURE 3-3

4. Upload the file

Log into animestudiotutor.com

Then go to animestudiotutor.com/shared_files/upload

Tile - A short description - typically two or three words that describe your shared file.
Anime Studio File - the zip file you created in step 2
Anime Studio Version - the software version of Anime Studio used.
Render/Cover/Screenshot image - the image you created in step 3
Comments and details - here you can describe (in 500 characters or less) your file. You may also include a link to your website or blog. Please do not spam this area.
Video URL - your Vimeo or Youtube URL (final/rendered version of your file)
Keywords - at least 5 words that describe your shared file. Each word should be separated by a comma.

Once done, click the 'Upload' button.

If everything went ok, then on the next screen you will be asked to create a thumbnail. This is made from your uploaded screen image. You can resize the capture box to focus on a specific part of your image if you wish.

After the thumbnail has been created your shared file will be made live. If you are logged into your account, you will be able to edit your file at any time from the edit or delete link under the shared item description.
